NIGHT WALK

  • David Li Sound Gallery, Ian Potter Performing Arts Centre Monash University Clayton Australia (map)

The KIAZMA Piano Duo in collaboration with pianists from the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance present Night Walk. Created especially for the David Li Sound Gallery, Night Walk is a musical meditation on our connection with nature, on love and loss, the movement of ideas, on metaphor and metamorphosis. Pianists Aura Go and Tomoe Kawabata interweave music for one and two pianos by composers for whom nature has been a powerful creative force. Evocative night-filled poetry of Judith Wright, Walt Whitman and Amin Malouf gives rise to musical responses by Ian Munro, Matthew Whittall and Kaija Saariaho; Benjamin Britten’s daily “thinking walks” were central to his compositional process; Peter Sculthorpe and Akira Nishimura draw on Japanese concepts of metamorphosis in their sonic explorations of stillness and space. The program features the world premiere of Letter to a Friend for two pianos by Ian Munro.
